Swap funny stories and anecdotes about your furry friends - nobody could ever get bored of these kinds of cute conversations!

Why not arrange a 'dog date' where you can walk your best buddies together and get to know each other as you go. Of course, not everyone who loves dogs will have one right now, but that doesn’t have to get in your way! You’ve still got plenty of ways that you can connect over canines - ask them about childhood pets, their best-loved breeds, or favourite mutts from movies or TV shows.

If they do have a dog right now, show enthusiasm for their fur baby! They’ll be more than happy to share their adorable pet pics with new people. Ask open questions and pay compliments - and remember, your date asking you to come and meet their dog is a huge compliment to you. They’re like a member of the family for them! Spending quality time with a date and their favourite furry friend (or friends!) helps create a deeper connection for you both.

For a first date, why not visit a local dog park and play frisbee or catch with your pup(s)? Exercise releases endorphins (aka the chemicals that make you happy), so you’re hound to have a good time! To bond further, sign up to some local dog-walking groups or head down to some doggy events together like agility trials or puppy meet-ups. You might be surprised at just how much there is to do for us dog lovers once you start looking!

For the ultimate romantic endeavour, volunteering at a local animal shelter together will have you both coo-ing over the cute canines. Awwwwwhhhh, look at his little face! Just try not to take any of those cuties home together on the first date - that miiiiiiight seem a little intense!

Dog owners are great people

Dog people tend to be kind-hearted and compassionate - great qualities for your next partner, right? Dogs provide us with companionship and unconditional love, both of which are essential in any romantic relationship.

It’s wonderful that they’re so committed to their dog and want to include them in everything they do. We mean, why wouldn’t they? That’s their best bud! Relish the opportunities for long walks or trips to the park with them. Wrap up warm, sit outside a cafe with a cozy drink and watch the world go by… Ahhhhhh, this is the life!

Patience is key. Animals can be unpredictable, and they do need lots of care and attention. Expect to see their dedication to their dog shine through - and don’t take it personally if they have to change plans because of a last-minute vet trip or a dogsitter cancelling.

Get to know the dog as well as the person - if you bond with that furry ball of sweetness, your relationship will flourish. It’s a win-win! And remember, if your date is distracted and stressed about their dog, it’s only because they love them so much - and that love is a beautiful thing!
